Wise, Wild, & Free
Wise - calling on the wisdom of yoga.
Wild - the creative expression in dance.
Free - connecting deeply to our bodies through movement.
I have tried to articulate this over the years and it is such a funny thing to put into words. Yes Qoya is a movement class, but it is much more than that. Practicing Qoya provides a sacred time to get out of my head and to move my body so that I connect deeply with myself. I step away from my computer, phone, from all the emails, the ever-growing to-do list and create the sacred space to connect with me and remember who I am.

I have always been an analyzer and a worrier. It takes WORK for me to get out of my mind. I tend to hold a lot of stress and anxiety in my body, which leaves me feeling very constricted. Also I have a demanding corporate job, I sit at a desk most days and I have a long commute. While I am very grateful for my blessings, this lifestyle does take a toll on my mind and body. Practicing Qoya is a really special way to get me out of that constricted feeling and to be much more open and present. Getting out of my head helps me quiet my inner critic and find more peace. I leave each class feeling lighter, grounded, focused, less anxious, refreshed, inspired, creative, and FREE!

Practically we do incorporate elements of yoga, meditation, free dance and sensual movement. And what is sensual movement you ask? It’s just a simple way of saying that we explore movements that your body already knows and then you have some time to play with making them your own. You get to decide how to move in a way that feels right for you. This is kind of where the magic is!!! This is where you really get to celebrate the way your unique body wants to move. This is how you connect more deeply to yourself, your desires, your intuition and your heart. It reminds you how to trust yourself, honor yourself and the way your body wants to move.
“Movement is the quickest, most effective way to tap into your body’s wisdom.”
Qoya is a guided class so you don’t have to worry about figuring anything out. It is designed for everyone. There are no levels and the best part is there is no way you can do it wrong. Qoya is for women of all ages, body types and levels of movement experience. Be prepared for an amazing time dancing, sweating, stretching, yoga-ing and connecting to other women with some soulful tunes to help guide the journey along.
What you need for class:
Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and that you can move freely in. No yoga or gym clothes required. Bring a yoga mat or towel if you have one, as we will lie on the floor. Please bring water to hydrate and an open heart and mind.

I'm a Certified Qoya Teacher offering classes and workshops globally. I am currently based in Oakland but I also call NYC and Miami home. I started doing Qoya because I found myself living in my head all too often. It felt constricting and that I wasn’t really living, just doing. Movement and dance has always been my way back to my truest self, to my creativity, my best ideas, and most importantly, to my heart. Qoya has been the gift to help me return to me… the best me.
